A good old day for Badenoch and Strathspey!
A special get-together is being arranged for the older generation of Badenoch and Strathspey.
Highland Senior Citizens Network and the national charity for older people, Age Scotland, are encouraging the "seniors" to apply now to book their places on the Older People’s Get Together.
It's going to be held on Friday, May 3 at the Grant Arms in Grantown, from 10am to 3pm – for those who book by next Thursday, April 25.
Participants can attend the whole day or bespoke morning or afternoon session and attendance, which includes a light lunch, is free.
The day’s programme brings together a dementia awareness session from Alzheimer Scotland, news from local older people’s groups and organisations and an update on the NHS Highland service review and new hospital for Badenoch & Strathspey.
The morning’s session will feature a Dementia Friends session from 10.15–11.50am, open to "anyone who wants to understand a bit more about dementia and the small things you can do to help people living with the condition".
The Grantown Initiative will also highlight their aspirations for a dementia-friendly Strathspey capital.
Dr. Boyd Peters, NHS Highland associate medical director, will lead the afternoon session discussing the new hospital and other local NHS Highland service developments.
Jo Cowan, Highland Senior Citizens network co-ordinator said: “Our aim for this Badenoch & Strathspey Older People’s Get Together is to connect older people and local organisations to continue building age-friendly communities.”
Brian Sloan, Age Scotland’s chief executive, added: “As Scotland is ageing faster than the rest of the UK and dementia is also on the rise, regional and local support play a key role in providing Badenoch and Strathspey’s older people with the services and information that they need to love later life.
"We encourage everyone over 50 and those who support older people or people living with dementia to attend the Older People’s Get Together in Grantown."
