The finishing touches are just being made to two very special golden postboxes in Badenoch and Strathspey.

The post boxes in Aviemore and in Grantown are being painted golden to celebrate yesterday’s success at the Paralympic Games in London.

Dave Smith was a member of the mixed cox adaptive four crew which won gold at Eton Dorney - GB’s only gold in the rowing competitions.

That was then followed in the cyclign by Grantown’s Craig MacLean and Anthony Kappes’ gold medal win in the men’s B sprint final.

The postbox in Aviemore was due to be unveiled this lunchtime and the box in Grantown is expected to be completed by around 1.15pm.

Kappes and MacLean and the mixed four adaptive crew will also feature on their own special stamps which will be on sale on Tuesday in over 500 Post Offices across the UK.

The gold medal stamps will be presented for purchase as a sheet of two First Class stamps for £1.20. The sheet carries additional information on the winning athlete or athletes.

Royal Mail is continuing to paint some of its much-loved red post boxes gold to celebrate every ParalympicsGB gold medal win during the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

The UK is the first country to paint post boxes gold to celebrate Paralympics gold medal wins.
