Strath music festival hits the right notes

Children in the strath have proved they have got more than one string to their bow after excelling in 55th annual Badenoch and Strathspey Music Festival.

Festival chairwoman Carolyn Turner said there has been some terrific musical performances.

Around 130 children took part in a poetry day at Talla nan Ros in Kingussie as part of the festival.

Ms Turnder explained: "Poet John Rice has had a very busy but enjoyable day, hearing all the poems our local youngsters have been preparing over the past few weeks."

Youngsters from Newtonmore, Gergask, Alvie, Kingussie, Dalwhinnie and Grantown primary schools have all taken to the stage already.

Ms Turner said that a number of entrants were awarded the ‘outstanding’ category for their performances at the festival which comes to a close tomorrow (Friday).

She added: "We are also pleased to welcome Strathdearn Primary School pupils from Tomatin to the festival this year for the first time, and we are looking forward to hearing more from them during the remainder of the festival."
