Highlands and Islands Labour MSP David Stewart “sounded” out the strath – with a visit to the local radio station.

He has lent his support to efforts by the Aviemore-based community radio station to attract more funding.

Mr Stewart said: “I was heartened to speak to the directors of Speysound radio and it was enlightening to hear about their ambitions and aspirations for the station.

“After discussion it was apparent that the station would obviously benefit from new funding and new accommodation.

"I have written to Highlands and Islands Enterprise to establish if they are in a position to offer support in financial terms or in respect of financing a management consultant who can best source the required funding streams to help the station."

He added: “It is always good to see communities work together and form their own community groups and organisation, including community radio stations, as it is by these actions that communities are held together, making their area ideal places to live, work and visit."
