Staying 'mum' on another big festival for Aviemore

Could it all happen again?

The man who organised Aviemore’s incredible "Gentlemen of the Road" stopover last weekend insisted that for the Mumfords it was just a one-off.

But with a mischievous grin, Robert Hicks of Beyond Presents added: "The way the community embraced the event is pretty incredible.

"Given the infrastructure that’s here and the infrastructure that we have added makes it a natural place to do something, so it would be foolish not to consider something.

"So it’s a case of watch this space..."

The official number attending the two-day festival at the Dell of Rothiemurchus was put at 17,000 and no "trouble" was reported, just sunny and muddy fun.

Mr Hicks was full of praise for all who came: "I have spoken to the police commander, who said he was amazed at how little trouble there had been with nothing of note. Again, talking to the medical team here there were very few incidents to deal with.

"We just had a bloody nice audience!

"They seemed very well-behaved and, from an organisational point of view, it was great. But we obviously had very, very challenging weather conditions which meant that at one point we had to close the car parks.

"And yet, the good folk at the Macdonald Highland Resort opened up their overflow car park so we were able to take people there.

"It was exceptionally muddy but the show went on."

Social media reaction has been overwhelmingly positive.

Local Highland Councillor Bill Lobban told the "Strathy": "What a fantastic weekend! Robert claimed right from the start that people would not just stay inside the event compound and how right he was.

"Aviemore was quite literally jumping and the benefit to the local economy has been enormous.

"Mumford & Sons were the perfect act to end this fantastic event in the perfect place and should Robert decide to bring another similar festival to Aviemore in the future he will be made most welcome."
