KEEP DANCING . . . and they will have to with a feast of foxtrot, tango and other energetic routines being served throughout this weekend in Grantown.

Strictly Grantown has been extended and takes place tomorrow evening (Friday) through to Sunday - after a wait of nearly two years since the fundraiser debuted.

The brave contestants who will be hotfooting it to the dance floor at the town’s Craiglynne Hotel this weekend are Abbie Gray and Martin Ross; Sian Bruce and John Campbell; Carol Lawson and Danny Rose; Susan Ellis and Tom McKeand; Alison Robertson and Hayden Gray; and Heather Cogan and Darren McConnell.

One of them, Danny Rose, revealed that ‘strange things’ have been happening at his home in the lead-up to the dance extravaganza.

He revealed: "I have been watching Strictly instead of Top Gear, there are snippets of dance routines written on bits of discarded wood and I have been having discussions about the merits of fake tan and the waxing of chest hair!

"I just want all to go well for Strictly Grantown and for lots of money to be raised for the worthwhile charities the event is supporting."

Fellow contestant Sian Bruce said: "I was lucky enough to be working at the Grantown Nursery during the last Strictly Grantown and saw how much we were able to do with the money raised.

"I agreed to be a contestant this year to show my appreciation and hopefully raise even more money."

Postman Martin Ross said he was hoping to deliver some first class performances.

"I’m far more comfortable being battered and bruised on the Shinty pitch than being dragged around the dance floor by my very patient partner Abbie!"

This year there will be a raffle and an opportunity to have a professional photograph taken with accompanying guests at each performance.

Ian (Barnie) Anderson and Kathy Grant triumphed with their street dance in a keenly contested competition in 2012.

They raised the biggest cash sum for charity by gaining the most votes of the evening, with each vote costing £1.

The judges’ choice winners were Steven Oakes and Pam Weaving with their ever popular ‘Saturday Night Fever’ dance.

The other couples who took to the dance floor were Audrey McLean and Charlie Sinclair; Susan Riley and John Crosbie; Mike Sinclair and Jean Irvine; Margaret McWilliam and Grantown Community Council chairman Jim Beveridge, and Fiona Campbell and John Stables.

The local charities that will benefit from this year’s event are the Grantown Festive Lights, Grantown Playgroup, Grantown Football Club, the town’s YMCA and Badenoch and Strathspey Community Transport Company.

• There are still a few tickets available for tomorrow evening. For more information contact one of the organisers, Louise Laing, on (01479) 872108 working hours today (Thursday).
