Hundreds of Highland homes were without power on Saturday evening after a fault on the overhead grid.

Almost 300 homes in Strathspey were left without power following the fault just after 7pm - with engineers predicting the supply could be out for several hours.

At the time of writing, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) was projecting a reconnection time of 10.30pm, although engineers had not yet reached the location of the fault - so this time could vary.

According to the SSEN Power Track online map, the outage is centred on Dulnain Bridge, and predominantly covering an area that stretches to Grantown-on Spey to the north-east, Nethy Bridge to the south east, near to Carrbridge to the west, and Boat of Garten to the south-west.

However, the map also shows the outage also affecting areas to the south west of Aviemore too.

In total, SSEN claims 285 homes and businesses were affected.

A spokesperson for SSEN said: "We're sorry about the power cut in the area. We're working with out engineers to fix the problem as quickly as possible."

They added: "Engineers are on the way. When they get there they'll work hard to fix the problem as quickly as possible. At this stage, we're aiming to have your power back on by 10.30pm.

"The cause of the power cut is a fault on our overhead network."
