Police in Badenoch and Strathspey have been focusing on road safety this week with speed checks being carried out in and around villages across the beat, including Aviemore, Kincraig, Carrbridge and Newtonmore.

Officers are keen to ensure road users are mindful of the 20mph speed restrictions in place, paying particular attention to school routes at peak times,

Constable Caroline Gray said: "With road safety being one of the top concerns for local communities, activity this week has been aimed at reducing vehicle speed in and around schools, which I’m sure everyone appreciates is vital to ensuring children, young people and indeed all road users as safe as possible.

"The majority of motorists drive very safely and within the speed limit but unfortunately three drivers were issued with fixed penalties this week for speeding offences very close to primary schools.

"As daylight hours extend and traffic flow increases in the area, officers are keen to continue working with local residents and community councils to address any concerns they may have about road safety."

Anyone with concerns about speeding or any aspect of road safety in their local community is encouraged to contact Police on 101 or via the Police Scotland website.
