Cairngorm Gliding Club is flying high with this year’s Mayfest celebration - as spectacular images like this are demonstrating.

Secretary Phil Hawkins, reporting in the latest Airfield Diary, explained that during the first two weeks of May the club plays host to visitors from other gliding clubs around the UK, who bring their own gliders with them.

“This year we welcome pilots from other Scottish clubs as well as more distant travellers from Northumberland, Derbyshire, Lancashire, North Wales and Sussex.

“We have been making the most of this settled spell of fine weather - at least five pilots have visited Ben Nevis this week.”

Fellow glider Stewart Hills reported: “It's been a nice few days at this year's Mayfest Cairngorm Gliding Club. I have done around about 30 aerotows and a few glider flights in between.

“One notable flight was a 142km triangle which hopefully will get me my 100km diploma badge and also a new record for me by staying aloft for 3.5hrs in one flight - a new PB.”

Bob Petrie submitted an awesome view of Loch Einich from the south, with cloud shadows dappling the mountain slopes.

Dave Weekes posted his own impressive shot of the Lairig Ghru mountain pass with both cumulus and wave clouds above.
