Emergency services were alerted to the wild fire at Fleenasmore just before 3pm today.

This comes just hours after an extreme risk of wild fire was put in place earlier this afternoon covering parts of the north and east of mainland Scotland, and throughout Shetland. The warning remains in place until Monday.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said this wild fire was spread across approximately 1km x 1km involving fields of barley and forestry. And added that “crews are working to prevent fire spreading and protect a small number of nearby properties”.

Appliances from Inverness, Nairn, Grantown-on-Spey and Forres have been in attendance.

Deputy Assistant Chief Officer Kenny Barbour said: “This is a stark reminder of the genuine risk of wild fire across parts of the country.

“We know how quickly these incidents can spread and have mobilised the necessary resources to tackle this fire.

“Crews are working tirelessly alongside partners including landowners and estate workers to create fire breaks, limit further spread, and bring this incident under control.

“We are mindful of potential smoke travel and anyone within the immediate vicinity of Fleenasmore is advised to keep windows and doors closed.

“Those living in the wider area should be vigilant and if you can see or smell smoke, please take the same course of action.”

The Dava area has seen a spate of incidents recently following Scotland’s biggest ever wildfire late in June.
