There were very few masks on show and no social distancing to speak of in the massive crowd at Kingussie, even though the organisers had urged people to stay safe

Global pandemic aside, the festive fellowship was very much to the fore as the capital of Badenoch made the most of its one Christmas parade. Other communities, including Aviemore and Grantown, had cancelled their own traditional Christmas Eve parades while awaiting the latest Scottish Government guidance on how far to go in the face of the new Omicron strain.

The revellers of Kingussie did know, though, that like everywhere else they were not destined to be gathering this year for their torchlit Hogmanay celebration.

So they were out to make the very most of the Christmas pageant as it made its way through the town to the beautifully refurbished Gynack Gardens.
