Snow adorns the Highland Wildlife Park

Hello mum!
Hello mum!

Hoof goes there…? It’s Snow in June!

The new-born calf at the Highland Wildlife Park by Kincraig is following in the hoofsteps of his two older siblings and joining in on the Game of Thrones excitement.

The park recently welcomed this little addition to the Mishmi takin herd.

Born at the end of April and currently just over a month old, the newcomer was named Snow after the character Jon Snow in the popular TV programme Game of Thrones.

The hoofstock keepers are huge fans of Game of Thrones, as last year’s two female takin calves were named Arya and Khaleesi, after the keepers’ favourite female characters.

“Snow is the first takin calf born at the park this year” said an excited head hoofstock keeper, Morag Sellar.

“Whilst still quite young, he is already very strong and can be seen running around, but never usually far from his mum, Cava.

“Mishmi takin calves are able to walk and run confidently at just three days old, allowing the calf to follow its mother over rough, mountainous terrain to avoid predators and find food sources.

“Snow is not the only new addition to the herd, as the park recently received a new male takin from Berlin Zoological Garden. “
