The sights, sounds and smells of the golden age of steam can be enjoyed on the Strathspey Railway this Saturday and Sunday at Boat of Garten Station.

At least five full-sized traction engines and lorries are due to appear alongside eleven miniature ride-on versions.

With a range of supporting exhibits and a “two-train” service, including the splendid blue Caledonian No 828, on the line from Aviemore to Broomhill on both days, there will be much to guarantee a great day out on the railway. There will be the usual traditional Sunday Lunch on board one of the trains. Visitors can even get to drive a Class 31 Diesel locomotive for just a tenner!

Vintage MacBrayne buses, Veteran Cycle Club, historic cars from Inverness MG owners club, narrow gauge rides, a fairground organ, Spencer’s fun fair rides, face-painting and various stalls will compliment steam road rollers, steam lorries and traction engines. On Sunday afternoon, at 3pm, the Badenoch & Strathspey Pipe Band will lead off a parade finale of participating vehicles up the main street in Boat of Garten.

Admission to the Steam Fair is only £6 but for even better value, including convenient steam railway transport to and from the event from Broomhill and Aviemore, tickets can be had for just £13.00 with the usual concessions for families, children, senior citizens and Association members. There will be a "Park and Ride" at Boat of Garten, using MacBraynes Coaches between the car park and the station.
