Shock as two Badenoch and Strathspey care homes go into administration

There is shock and concern following two care homes in Badenoch and Strathspey being placed into administration.

Grandview House in Grantown is to close in the summer but there are hopes that a buyer can be found for Main's House in Newtonmore.

An administrator has been appointed to take over the running of the two care homes.

NHS Highland has said it is working with the administrator and families to to re-home the residents from the care home in the centre of Grantown.

The health authority has also said that finding new employment for the staff at Grandview will also be a priority.

An NHS Highland spokesperson told the Strathy this morning: "The administrator has communicated that there will be a managed closure of Grandview House care home and this will take place over a 13 week period.

"During this time, NHS Highland will work jointly with the administrator and outgoing provider, and the 34 residents, their families and staff to ensure a smooth and managed closure.

"Liaison social workers have been appointed and the priority for NHS Highland will be to work with residents and their families to find new homes for the residents that best meet their care needs."

Staff in the care home have provided care to residents for many years and the healthy authority said they will be supported to move to alternative health and social care employment opportunities.

Main’s House care home will continue to operate whilst a buyer is sought for the continued operation of the facility.

NHS Highland area manager Maria Dickson, said: “This is a sad time for residents, families and staff at Grandview Care Home.

"The home has provided excellent care to the local Grantown community for many years and I am grateful to the provider and their staff for their years of caring service to residents, particularly so during the challenging Covid-19 period.

"We are optimistic that Main’s House will attract a buyer to enable the continued delivery of this service to the Newtonmore and wider community”.

The Newtonmore facility is operated by Mains House Ltd and the Grantown home is run Grandview House Ltd, both owned by the Eavis family.

Dinah Hanid (Eavis) on behalf of the directors said: “Unfortunately both Grandview and Mains House have gone into administration and we are working closely with NHS Highland who have been very supportive over the safe placement of the residents from Grandview.

"This will take place over the coming months.

"As a family, it has been an absolute pleasure working with so many wonderful people for the past 24 years.

"We are truly sorry that we can no longer continue to operate our services.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who have supported us over many years."

Highland Council convener and local councillor Bill Lobban told the Strathy: "“Placing these two care homes into administration will be an extremely worrying time for the residents and their families as well as the dedicated staff who work there.

"I’m sure NHS Highland will do everything they can to ensure a safe transition and will first and foremost have the residents wellbeing at heart."

Fellow Highland councillor Muriel Cockburn said: "It is with deep regret that Badenoch and Strathspey now has two private care homes going into administration.

"The most important thing is the wellbeing for the residents and support for their families."

The Grantown home occupies a prominent site on the town's High Street.
