There is shock and anger after a pet cat from Kingussie was shot through the neck with a crossbow.

Twelve-year-old Nuke belonging to Jim McLean had been missing for a couple of days before turning up back at home with the horror injury.

A police investigation has been launched to find the culprit.

Mr McLean had shared on local social media that Nuke had been taken to the vets in Grantown but it is 'not looking good'.

There has been anger and shock that anyone would do so such a thing.

Gillian McNaughton posted: "I just don't have any words – poor cat."

Lorraine Thomson stated: "Somebody knows who did this. They are as responsible as the sick low life who fired the bolt."

Laura Hansler posted: "Abuse always starts on animals first... I'm so bloody angry at this."

Shona Chevalier said: "I really hope he is okay and is on the mend soon and the scum who did this are caught and end up in prison. What a vile thing to do; it makes me so angry."

Gerry Gosling posted: "Not many people own a crossbow – someone knows who did this. Keep talking about it; the truth will eventually come out."
