A new Sheriff who will serve in the sheriffdom of Grampian and the Highlands and Islands was installed at a ceremony at Inverness Sheriff Court this week.

Sheriff Andrew Miller (45) has previously served with the Procurator Fiscal’s service for 18 years in Dumbarton and Campbelltown.

He will preside mainly at Portree and Lochmaddy Sheriff Courts but also in Inverness and Dingwall.

Sheriff Miller’s family attended his installation by Sheriff Principal Derek Pyle in Court Number 1 at Inverness on Tuesday.

Also present were representatives of the local faculty of solicitors, the sheriff clerk’s office and the procurator fiscal’s service in Inverness.

He was welcomed on behalf of the fiscal service by Alasdair Laing and on behalf of local solicitors by Dean of Faculty Marc Dickson who congratulated him on his appointment as a Sheriff.

Sheriff Miller qualified as a solicitor in 1991 and joined the fiscal’s service in 1995.

He became a solicitor advocate in 2003 and Procurator Fiscal at Dumbarton and Campbelltown in 2005.

Five years later he became an advocate depute.
