Senior pupils' chance to complete coursework is ruled out at Kingussie school

Pupils who were due to take exams at Badenoch and Strathspey's largest school will not be able to finish off their coursework as had initially been thought following the closures caused by Coronavirus.

Initially it has been believed that senior pupils would be able to return to the classroom on Monday and Tuesday to complete course but that is no longer the case.

Kingussie High School head Ian Adamson said in a statement issued to parents: "There has been a lot of information over the last week that has been given to schools and then changed very quickly due to the speed at which the country is trying to deal with Covid-19.

"On Friday I had been told that we could identify a group of senior pupils requiring to complete SQA coursework and bring them into school on Monday and Tuesday next week to complete their work.

"The First Minister has announced that this will not be happening and schools will be shut except for a skeleton staff who will be making and delivering free school meals to the families who qualify for them.

"The SQA are aware of this decision around incomplete coursework and we are waiting for some clarity from them as what this means moving forward.

"We will communicate any updates from the SQA as soon as we receive them."

Mr Adamson thanked the students again for their patience and understanding "during this difficult time".

He added: "I feel for the many pupils who have been working so hard to prepare for their exams and who are bitterly disappointed with the current situation."
