Officers spent some hours searching the area, checking local shops that Mr Anderson frequently attends, as well as speaking to family, neighbours and friends but without confirmation of anything further sightings of the popular Mr Anderson, who is celebrated in the area for his years of selfless community service in a range of organisations including the local community council.
He had driven off from his home in his green Land Rover Freelander.
As the search continued Sergeant Dale Hansen said: "It's unlike Mr Anderson to be out of contact and to leave home for this length of time without making someone aware so we are concerned at this time for his well-being. "

The precise details are not yet known and there was no answer when the Strathy rang his home number this evening.
