A Strathspey and Badenoch-wide quiz night is set to pitch village against village in a bid to raise funds for local young skiers and snowboarders.

The Badenoch & Strathspey Schools Snowsport Association (BSSSA) is hosting the quizzes in Grantown, Carrbridge, Aviemore and Newtonmore simultaneously on Wednesday – all starting at 8pm.

So not only could your team be the brain boxes of your village – you could find yourselves with the honour of being recognised as the brain boxes of the whole strath.

Kerrie Dickson, chairman of the BSSSA explained: "We’re aiming to raise funds to ensure that all P7 pupils of schools in our area can have the opportunity to ski and snowboard and a quiz night is always very popular and a good fundraiser.

"This time however, we thought it would be good to get all competitive and pitch village against village in a bid to become the masterminds of the valley. All the venues will be in contact with each other during the course of the evening so we can develop a league table and everyone will know who’s in the lead and who is languishing at the bottom!"

There are four venues confirmed – the Claymore in Grantown; the Cairn Hotel in Carrbridge; the Cairngorm Hotel in Aviemore and the Glen Hotel in Newtonmore but organisers say that if other venues would like to get involved, they would be delighted.

Kerrie added: "As yet, we haven’t got every village in the area covered so if there are other venues that would like to come on board that would be fantastic. There will also be a raffle in each location so if anyone would like to donate prizes, we would be extremely grateful and a few more volunteers to help run the quizzes wouldn’t go amiss either!"

Teams can be of any size up to a maximum of 5 at a cost of £5 per person. For more information please contact the BSSSA on tel: 07917 176900 or email: kezzadickson@hotmail.com
