Search is on for new hero of the glen as part of Aviemore fun weekend
The search is on for a new young hero of the glen, with the winning child crowned at a fun packed, weekend charity event.
The fundraiser is being jsponsored by Macdonald Aviemore Resort and The Royal Bank of Scotland and is being held this Saturday and Sunday.
Three local charities nominated by staff at the Macdonald Aviemore Resort will benefit: MFR Cash for Kids, the Highland Hospice and Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team.
The weekend events are being held as part of the STV Children’s Appeal.
Local residents are being asked to nominate friends or family members under 16, who have achieved something they are proud of or made an outstanding contribution to help others.
The event which is being held in the grounds of resort and at the MAR's Children’s Activity Centre will include showing the latest Ant Man movie, giant inflatable team challenges, circus skills and water walkerz.
The Royal Bank of Scotland Screen Machine will be showing short films over the weekend and a vast array of market stalls will offer a range of locally produced art and craft along with food and drink.
There will be emergency services giving demonstrations including the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team.
Ruth Dixon, the resort's operations manager for activities and entertainment said: "We have been working with our nominated charities for six months now and are excited to push our commitment to them to a whole new level.
"We have held charity events in the past but nothing on this scale.
"Our activity centre manager Mary Ramsay is an army reservist and was the first to approach her regiment to secure their involvement and the fact that the charities are chosen by hotel staff makes this event really personal to us.
"We want to celebrate all the existing heroes of the glen and highlight the special contribution that the younger generation makes also."
Nominations can be posted to the Macdonald Aviemore Resort Facebook page or dropped off in person at The Royal Bank of Scotland branch in Aviemore or at the Aviemore resort.
All profits from the weekend will go to the three charities.
