SKYE, Lochaber and Badenoch MSP Dave Thompson has welcomed the announcement of Scottish Government funding for a further 43 homes within his own constituency, including four in Kingussie.

The announcement of £56.7 million was made by Housing Minister Keith Brown.

It followed an announcement of £55 million for 37 homes in Mr Thompson’s constituency the previous week by Alex Neil, Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure and Capital Investment, although Badenoch missed out on that occasion.

The latest sum announced by Mr Brown following the Finance Secretary Joh Swinney’s Spending Review will allow the construction of a further 43 affordable houses over the next 12 months.

Under the settlement Highland Council has been allocated £660,000 to help fund the construction of four houses in Kingussie, six in Muir of Ord, six in Dornie, and six in Conon Bridge.

Mr Thompson (SNP) said he was delighted that the Scottish Government has been able to announce funding for a total of 80 new affordable homes within his constituency alone.

He said that this was "despite the savage cuts that Westminster has imposed upon the Scottish budget".
