More than 100 probationer teachers are starting out on their new careers including eight in Badenoch and Strathspey's two secondary schools.

Of the 111 probationers, 52 have been allocated to secondary schools and 59 to primary schools in the Highlands.

Councillor Alasdair Christie, Chairman of Highland Council's Adult and Children's Services Committee, said: "Probationer teachers play a vital role in the provision of education for our pupils.

"I am delighted that Highland Council has again been able to offer an increased number of placements for these teachers starting out in their educational careers.

"The fresh talent and enthusiasm that they bring with them is infectious and provides a welcome boost among our schools."

Mr Hugh Fraser, Highland Council's Director of Education, Culture and Sport also welcomed the 111 probationers starting in the 2013/14 academic year.

The number of probationers is an 8% increase on the 2012/13 intake which saw 103 of them last year working in Highland schools.
