Santa express trains to start running in Aviemore
Santa is set to let the train take the strain from this weekend.
The big man is due to catch the Santa Express from Aviemore’s steam railway station once more and give his hard-working reindeer a wee breather before their delivery round starts.
The Strathspey Railway Company has announced the imminent arrival at Platform 3 of the 2019 Santa Express.
“Services will commence on the weekend of November 30 and December 1,” said SRC spokesman Graham Sutherland. “And they will continue each weekend until the final services on December 21, 22 and 23.
“Although all the first-class compartments are now sold out on every service, there is limited availability on some of the services for standard class with most being on the first weekend.”
Trains depart Aviemore at 11am and 2pm. Santa will be on the platform to greet passengers prior to departure. He will then make his way through the train to see each child and hand them their special, age appropriate Christmas present.
The festive journey generally takes around two hours, as the train travels through – fingers crossed – a winter wonderland of beautiful seasonal scenery.
“A Christmas snack and activity boxes are provided to keep everyone fuelled and busy,” said Mr Sutherland. “The Strathspey Railway is again running a photo competition on the Santa services.
“The overall winner will receive a free first-class compartment in next year’s Santa service, so passengers should be sure to take their camera or phone along with them for the journey, to have a chance of winning.”
The advice is to wrap up well. After Christmas Day, the railway will be running its twice daily “Mince Pie Special” trains from December 27 through to January 2, 2020.
