As Santa travels the world each year he faces increasingly severe and unpredictable weather, adding challenges and peril to his journey. And he told the children as much today at Glenmore Visitor Centre.

The ‘new’ Glenmore Visitor celebrated a soft launch today with the Worst Christmas Weather Ever.

Not that the weather was too bad - a little bit raw and a bit of rain.

The book, though, was brilliant.

As the logs got going brightly in the burner at the entrance, STV weather hero Sean Batty set up his stall ready to sign what was left of the first print run of his hit volume ‘The Worst Christmas Weather Ever’.

“I’m delighted to say they’ve virtually sold out,” he told the Strathy. “There aren’t many left anyway and a lot of those are spoken for. I still have a talk to give tonight at the Macdonald Aviemore Resort and I’ll be signing there too.”

There was no shortage of demand today at the visitor centre, which has been rejuvenated by the Aviemore and Glenmore Community Trust.

WHAT A TEAM: Welcoming the first crowds to the rejuvenated visitor centre today were, from left, Sheena Sterry, Kirsty Bruce, Alex Bruce, Sarah Monro and Bethan Gunn.

Big things are planned by AGCT but as Kirsty Bruce said today on the trust’s behalf, “Today is very special with everyone complimenting us on the shape things are taking. The counter here has been well stocked with beverages and bakes and we have a great team to serve everyone.

“It’s fantastic to see so many coming through the doors. With the forecast not so good for today we weren’t so sure how it would go, but this is great and it’s wonderful to see so many youngsters here to meet Sean and get their copies.

'Climate change needs no embellishment,' TV weatherman Sean Batty told the Strathy. 'So every event in my book is based on actual occurrences in each location.'

“Santa’s appearance was just an added bonus for us all!
