Sample the joys of Laggan nature reserve this weekend
The stunning Creag Meagaidh National Nature Reserve near Laggan is the venue for the latest event to celebrate Year of Natural Scotland.
"Wild Creag Meagaidh" is planned for this Sunday (June 2) at the reserve which sits just off the A86 road near Laggan between Roybridge and Newtonmore.
The event will feature demonstrations and displays of art work from local school children, who have been working with artist Alastair McMorrine, who lives on the reserve.
Nature photographer John Macpherson will also be running some short workshops on photography, following on from two highly popular photo events run over the winter at Creag Meagaidh.
Deer management is a major part of the work on the reserve, and visitors will be able to try out a laser deer stalking simulator. They can also try their hand at taking a shot on the rifle range, supervised and advised by Scottish Natural Heritage staff.
The ever popular mobile kitchen will also be on hand, serving up samples from Scotland’s Natural Larder, and there will be local venison on sale, and a venison burger barbecue.
Other activities include Rob Ritchie with his Highland games for all ages, birchcraft, bird ringing, guided walks and Argo Cat Safaris.
Rory Richardson, reserve manager, said he anticipates a great day out.
"We have such a lot to offer visitors here at Creag Meagaidh, and the aim of the event is to bring people out here to see the reserve, get a feel for how we manage it and enjoy some fun activities.
"From past events we’ve found that once people realise what a beautiful place the Reserve is, and what good access opportunities there are, that they come back and explore more for themselves."
The event is free and runs from 11am to 4pm.
Visitors can also enjoy low ground walks through woodland, and follow the path up the hill to the spectacular Coire Ardair, passing through young birch woodland on the way.
Creag Meagaidh also has three munros, and is popular with hill walkers and climbers.
