Saluting the nation's Second World War heroes
Residents across Badenoch and Strathspey are being encouraged to celebrate as best they can in the safety of their homes and gardens the 75th anniversary of VE Day tomorrow.
The Aviemore and Rothiemurchus branch of the British Legion had originally organised three days of celebration in the village but these had to be cancelled because of the Covid-19 lockdown.
Instead they are pointing locals to a range of events which are taking place online to mark the end of the Second World War in Europe 75 years ago.
Branch spokeswoman Jude Bell said: "There are still a host of events happening but online and we hope that everyone will get involved. It is important that we commemorating this 75th anniversary of VE day and the sacrifices that were made.
"At 11am tomorrow, we're encouraging people across all generations and communities in the strath to take part in a national moment of Remembrance and pause for a Two Minute Silence to honour the service and sacrifice of the Second World War generation and reflect on the devastating impact Covid-19 has had on so many lives across the world."
Commemorations lined up for the big day include:
n Broadcast of the Legion Scotland Service on Legion Scotland and Poppy Scotland's social media channels from 10.40am. An online concert will begin about an hour later.
n On TV: VE Day: The Nation Remembers at 11am. BBC One will mark the two-minute silence, a moment of remembrance to pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
n Spud the Piper will be performing 'The War is over' on Carrbridge old packhorse bridge which will be stream live at https://www.facebook.com/LegionAviemore at 3pm.
n Around the same time there will be the nation's toast to the heroes of World War II when people will stand and raise a glass of refreshment of their choice and undertake the following ‘Toast’ – “To those who gave so much, we thank you”.
n The People’s Celebration, BBC One, 8pm - culminating in a rousing rendition of We’ll Meet Again at 9pm with the whole country encouraged to sing along to Dame Vera's famous wartime anthem.
Residents in Dellmhor, Grampian Court and Craig-na-gower Avenue in Aviemore are some of those in the strath having Stay at Home Street Parties obiding by the lockdown rules.
