Staff at Kingussie High School found it difficult to select their award winners in many subject areas this past academic year.

They said so many pupils had worked hard and produced high quality work on a regular basis.

But those that were chosen were recognised at the annual prize-giving ceremony at a packed school hall las Wednesday evening (June 26).

The evening was hosted by six S1 pupils birthday girl Emma Thurlow, who turned 13 that day, Jaiden McCormack, Beth Kelt, Xavi Rodwell, Anna Dallas and Tymon Jawor.

Headteacher Ian Adamson told the ‘Strathy’: “They all spoke with fantastic confidence.”

There were musical performances from Iona Pizarro on the piano, Iona Craig singing and Zoe Allan who played the violin.

Mr Adamson said: “All three performances were extremely polished and well received by the crowd.

“The evening was enjoyed by a large crowd of parents, carers and friends of the school with some folk having to stand as all seats were taken.”

There were a variety of prizes awarded for subject progress and merit prizes in S1-S3, to senior subject prizes and special prizes.

Mr Adamson said: “I am very proud of all the award winners who received a prize - all pupils deserve their awards for their hard work.

“As well as academic success, we showed the fantastic opportunities that pupils have at Kingussie High School through a video at the end of the ceremony.”

It is a tradition to play S6 versus staff softball on the last day of term.

Mr Adamson joked: “I am pleased to announce that the staff team retained their crown as champions again this year with an 8-3 win.

“I would like to thank all the brilliant staff who offer so many opportunities which allow pupils to have so many great experiences throughout the year.

“I would also like to thank all parents and carers and the entire school community for the support they have shown this year, and I wish them all a great summer.”
