RSPB urges wildlife to be given a voice in planning process
RSPB Scotland is encouraging local people to get involved in an important Scottish Government planning consultation to make sure wildlife is given a voice in the planning process.
The nearest session is taking place at Eden Court in Inverness tomorrow (Tuesday) between 3pm and 7pm.
Visitors will be encouraged to discuss and contribute their views to the review of Scotland’s most important planning documents.
The blueprints will set out how the Scottish planning system will operate, including determining where and how development should and should not happen and how Scotland’s environment should be protected from inappropriate development.
Aedán Smith, Head of Planning and Development for RSPB Scotland said: “This is a critically important time for planning and the natural environment.
"This is the first time we have had a complete, simultaneous review of the two most important documents for the protection of Scotland’s wildlife from development.
"I hope that Scottish Ministers will take the opportunity to not only improve the protection given to our wildlife, but will also look for opportunities to ensure that more developments provide genuine improvements to the local and wider environment.
“RSPB Scotland will be keeping the pressure on to make sure this happens but it is important that all of those with an interest in Scotland’s wildlife to get involved in this process, either by attending one of the Scottish Government’s drop-in events or by responding to consultation on the Government’s draft document, which will be produced next year.”
