Rothiemurchus has invested £300,000 to improve one of the estate’s main stopping-off points.

And the spending on The Barn will comes as a big relief to the hundreds of thousands of people who visit Rothiemurchus by Aviemore every year.

Ten toilets have been installed as part of the major upgrade to the popular cafe at Inverdruie.

Laird James Grant said: “The principle aim of the refurbishment is to make the working facilities at The Barn a better place for the staff.

"In addition we are also providing facilities which have been highlighted to us by a project which we have been working on with the Cairngorms National Park Authority over the last year on what areas we can improve for visitors.

“We identified that one of the frustrations for visitors to Rothiemurchus was the lack of toilets and so are now providing more facilities for them.

“We also have an area at the back of the cafe which can now be hired for private use.”

Following the soft relaunched on Thursday (May 2), there is not much change in the main part of The Barn itself which has proved to be a hit with visitors.

Mr Grant said: “I think people who like The Barn as it was will like the results as from a customer point of view there is very little change.

“We have maintained the existing look and the main investment has gone into making it a better place for our staff to work.”

This includes a much expanded kitchen which will be headed by new chef Phil Green and Jennifer MacDonald is continuing in her role as front-of-house manager.

The estate also installed new information boards at key points last month highlighting walks and estate attractions for a wide range of visitors.

Rothiemurchus currently provides more than 30 activities on its land.
