A team from the Footprints Baby Loss community will be taking on Ben Nevis at the end of this month to raise funds for the charity.

The group of 38 people - including eight children and a mix of men and women - are in the final stage of preparations for the round-trip to the 1,345 metres summit which will take around eight to 10 hours to complete.

Most of the team have experienced twin or triplet loss themselves or are friends or family members showing their support.

Sharon Drake and Suzie Scofield, co-founders of Footprints are also part of the team and looking forward to doing something in memory of their twins - Charlie, Joshua, Rory and Daniel.

The charity is planning a rose petal release at the top of the UK’s highest peak by Fort William.

Sharon is currently busy writing the names of babies’ on the petals which will be taken on the hike.

Once they reach the summit they will find a beautiful spot to release the petals ‘thinking of all the babies as they float away’.

Charity CEO Sharon said: “This is by far our biggest fundraising challenge yet. We are so pleased to have an amazing 38 people in the team.

“It will definitely be a day to remember and all in memory of our twins and triplets that have died.

“The funds raised from the climb will make so much difference to the charity and ensure we can provide continued support for our families.”

Footprints Baby Loss provides vital support to parents and families who experience the death of one or more of their twins or triplets before, during or after birth.

It is delivered by those who have had first hand experience of twin or triplet loss.

Fellow co-founder and chief operating officer Suzie said: “It feels very special to be doing something so incredible for the charity.

“These moments when we can come together in person, doing something in memory of our babies, always feels very powerful and I think helps us all find comfort and support in our ongoing grief.

“I have never done anything like this before and am so excited especially because my 14 year old son, Olly, is climbing with me.”

A charity spokesperson said: “Our team of over 35 volunteers understand the value of having a safe space to be able to communicate with someone who has been through something similar, and provide a kind, caring and an inclusive approach with the bereavement services.”

The support is provided by the way of befriending, online support groups and an online community group.

It is designed to help grieving parents navigate the complex emotions and challenges that follow a twin or triplet loss.

Additionally, the charity aims to educate healthcare professionals and provide multiple-specific literature.
