It's could be a busy night for snow plough teams on local roads

In anticipation of the Yellow ‘Be Aware’ Met Office weather warnings for snow, ice and wind across the North West of Scotland over the coming few days, BEAR Scotland has deployed its winter maintenance team to help manage and treat Scotland’s main routes.

Tonight a total of 37 winter vehicles will be out across trunk roads in the North West treating snow and ice and monitoring affected routes with more vehicles on stand-by.

Conditions will be continually monitored 24/7 by the contractor’s winter teams in their control room.

At present the snow gates at the A889 at Dalwhinnie have been closed as a precaution to allow the route to be assessed and snow cleared by winter operational teams.

Mr Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s Operating Company Representative for the North West said, "Our winter teams have been treating routes and clearing snow around the clock, and will continue throughout the night until morning.

"We advise drivers to plan ahead by listening to local and national radio for travel and weather information before you travel, and when driving slow down and leave increased space between you and the vehicle in front."
