Event near Boat of Garten set to help women living with endometriosis
An event designed to help people suffering from wndometriosis is set to be hosted by Boat of Garten next month.
The retreat, which will run between June 9 and June 13, is run by wellness company Hold Wellbeing and is designed for women living with chronic health conditions.
It is being staged at Big Husky Lodge at Kinveachy.
According to the organiser, the aim is to provide participants a safe space to tell their stories, and will involve expert-led talks and workshops (including an endometriosis surgeon, and a hormone coach) as well as daily movement and moments of reflection and other holistic therapies.
Michaela Regan, women’s health advocate and founder of Hold Wellbeing, said: “It is so much more than a retreat – for some women it is a lifeline.”
“Women leave feeling empowered, educated, and connected, and many form strong support networks that last long after the retreat ends.”
Endometriosis is a chronic disease which is estimated to affect 1 in 10 women — over 1.5 million people in the UK, with women having to wait between eight and ten years on average from the first GP visit to get a diagnosis, according to Endometriosis UK.
It can have a significant and debilitating impact on people’s physical and mental well-being and on their daily lives.
Ms Regan said: “Endometriosis is drastically under-funded and under-researched, and women are left to find their own ways, medicated or otherwise, to manage their symptoms (often with little understanding of them). “Fertility, mental health, physical health, careers and relationships are all affected, and as every woman is unique, so is everyone’s experience of Endometriosis.
This will be Hold Wellbeing’s sixth retreat, and she said she wants to “continue her mission of supporting women with complex health conditions” and “those who need uplifting and empowerment”, through “expertly curated” experiences.
