Retained fireman drove at over 100mph on A9 for call-out
A retained firefighter from Inverness who was caught driving at over 100 miles per hour on the A9 while attending a call was fined at Inverness Sheriff Court.
Matthew Quinn, (28), previously of Cedarwood Drive Milton of Leys, Inverness, was stopped by the police on the A9 stretch of dual carriageway between Drummossie and Inshes on July 29, 2012, at 8.30pm.
Depute fiscal Michelle Molley said Quinn’s car was spotted by police driving in their view at an excessive speed and they activated their speed gun and it recorded a speed of 100mph.
Police followed the vehicle, activated their flashing lights and stopped Quinn.
Quinn was originally charged with dangerous driving at 113mph but pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of careless driving in excess of 100mph.
Defence solicitor Duncan Henderson said Quinn had now left the area and was living with his parents at Carrbrook Drive, Atherton in Manchester.
The solicitor said he was a retained fireman at the time and was attending a call out to the Harbour Road fire depot in Inverness.
He said: “He accepts that does not entitle him to drive at that speed.”
Mr Henderson told the court he was no longer a retained firefighter.
Sheriff Jamie Gilchrist fined Quinn £300 and endorsed his license with seven penalty points.
