A ‘respite’ has been opened in Badenoch for travellers seeking shelter from Storm Ashley.

After posting an invite to all on social media, Mike Chappell, who has The Apiary at Dalwhinnie, told the Strathy this morning: “It’s busy, very busy already because it’s raining like hell and the wind is really strong.

“People are still travelling this morning despite the storm warnings and as we know it’s going to last all day and maybe after four o’clock, we’ll just have to see how it goes.

“We’ll be staying open as long as the power’s on. Hopefully it will escape the storm.

“But we’ll be here offering some respite for everyone who does get caught up - and it’s got nothing to do with money. We don’t care if they want to spend or not, we’re just here anyway for those who want to get out of the weather on their way.”
