The chief executive of Cairngorms Business Partnership – Mark Tate – has announced that he will leave the role he has held for more than eight years at the end of this year.

The Cairngorms Business Partnership is the Chamber of Commerce for the Cairngorms National Park and operates the destination management organisation VisitCairngorms.

Mr Tate said: “It has been and is a privilege to work, alongside a great team, to support, promote and represent businesses in the Cairngorms National Park.

"When I joined the CBP in July 2015 I told the board I would serve for around five years, then Covid came along so I felt I should stay on to support businesses and the team at the CBP through their most challenging times.

"I am so proud of everything we have accomplished over the past eight years.

"We have significantly grown our membership, created a sustainable, dynamic and resilient CBP business and really put the Cairngorms on the map as a destination and a place to do business.

"I look forward to the next phase of my journey which I hope will involve more travelling and adventuring.

"The Cairngorms is our home and I would love to work more directly with some of our amazing local businesses to help them build capacity, capability and fulfil their potential whilst continuing to build on my non-executive director roles and experience in the private and charity sectors.

"For now my focus is in continuing to support, promote and represent members of the CBP whilst working with them and the board to ensure a solid future and smooth succession."

Stuart Broster, chair of the CBP board, commented: “Mark has done an amazing job building the CBP into a nationally respected chamber of commerce and destination organisation.

"Mark’s leadership has ensured the CBP has a strong foundation.

"His superb communication and relationship building skills really came to the fore during the Covid crisis when the CBP certainly punched well above its weight.

"I am sure we would not have come through Covid so positively if it were not for Mark’s leadership.”

“During Mark’s tenure he has been instrumental in setting up some extremely important projects including an affordable housing scheme which even though in its early stages has made a huge difference to a number of our members.

"Mark has also been incredibly supportive to our members and when required has always made himself available.

"The CBP is founded on strong partnerships and relationships with many stakeholders operating in, or influencing, the Cairngorm National Park.

"Mark’s role in building these strong partnerships cannot be overstated. Myself and the board would like to publicly thank Mark for his time and commitment to the CBP.”

Grant Moir, Cairngorms National Park Authority chief executive, said: “It has been a pleasure working with Mark these past eight years.

"With Mark at the helm the Cairngorms Business Partnership has gone from strength to strength and Mark has played an important role in supporting businesses and communities through the pandemic, championing innovation and skills development, and tackling important issues such as affordable housing and climate change adaptation.

"We wish him all the best for the future.”

The Cairngorms Business Partnership's board are now working with Mr Tate to identify and recruit a new CEO.
