Rangers fan faces ground ban order after Caley game chants
A Rangers fan from Walsall in the England has been told he will have to make a personal appearance after he pleaded guilty to singing a sectarian song at Inverness Caley Thistle’s stadium last year.
Football hooligan Scott Holyman, Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood heard had already been subject to a football ground banning order in 2005.
The 29 year-old, of Brookland Road, Walsall admitted at Inverness Sheriff Court on October 14, 2016 engaging in behaviour likely to cause public disorder by singing songs in support of the Ulster Volunteer Force.
The offence took place at a Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and ICT.
Rangers won the match 1-0.
Depute fiscal Fiona Murray told Sheriff Fleetwood Holyman was pleading guilty to the charge by letter.
But he had previous convictions and was subject to a football banning order in 2005.
Sheriff Fleetwood said he could not impose a banning order unless Holyman was present in court.
"And given his record I am not prepared to deal with this in his absence."
Sentence was deferred for a personal appearance by Holyman on August 22.
