Rail bridge repair by Carrbridge on track for completion

Highland Council has reassured motorists that work on the Baddengorm Bridge by Carrbridge is still on track for completion and the road will re-open as scheduled this Sunday (March 16).

There has been speculation that work was running behind time, meaning that the current major diversion would be in place for longer.

However, Highland Council has said this is not the case. The repairs to the railway bridge have been ongoing since February 26 by Network Rail.

Part of the A938 Blackmount-Dulnain Bridge road below the bridge north of Carrbridge has had to be shut whilst the urgent maintenance work is carried out.

It has meant that the Inverness-Perth road can not be accessed from Carrbridge, and likewise motorists heading east can not turn off at Blackmount from the A9.

Instead, traffic has had to get on and off the region’s arterial road at Granish, just north of Aviemore, adding up to half an hour to some journeys.

There had been claims that problems over "parts" had delayed the bridge work and that the completion date would be set back.

But a Highland Council spokesperson assured the ‘Strathy’: "Our team spoke to the contractor earlier this week and they have confirmed that the works are close to completion and the road will be open by March 16."

Public bus routes and times have been affected during the closure.
