Raigmore Hospital ward to reopen
A Raigmore Hospital ward which was closed because of an outbreak of Clostridium difficile is expected to reopen tomorrow (Saturday) following deep cleaning.
Ward 5C was closed to new admissions on Monday because of two cases of the superbug, which NHS Highland classes as an outbreak as it is higher than would be expected.
Consultant Microbiologist at Raigmore Hospital Dr Jonty Mills explained that, with no new cases of Clostridium difficile in the ward since Monday, deep cleaning was able to begin on Thursday.
He said: "The actions we took were largely to reduce the risk of the infection spreading within the ward environment and we have managed to contain this outbreak by acting quickly.
"We have been closely monitoring the situation and I am content that it has now come to an end and deep cleaning was able to begin yesterday.
"All staff involved, which includes the nursing team, infection control, pharmacy, clinical colleagues and our team of domestics, have worked incredibly hard throughout this week to ensure that this is kept under control."
