A care home in Grantown has been praised for being homely, its very good setting and leadership but support for its residents’ well-being was only rated as ‘adequate’.

Bosses at Lynemore have said they are already addressing the lower mark for the purpose-built care home operated by Parklands Ltd and registered for up to 40 people.

The key findings from the unannounced visit by two inspectors between 26 November and 11 December, last year, were:

• there was a welcoming and homely environment at Lynemore because staff engaged well with people and their visitors.

• Lynemore was well maintained.

• Staff worked well together.

• People's reviews were being scheduled regularly but staff should store this centrally for ease of access.

Inspectors evaluate care services using a six point scale where one is unsatisfactory and six is excellent.

For Lynemore, they awarded the following ratings:

How well do we support people's well-being? 3 - Adequate

How good is our leadership? 4 - Good

How good is our staff team? 4 - Good

How good is our setting? 5 - Very Good

How well is our care and support planned? 4 - Good

Elaine Taylor, operations director at Parklands, said: "The Care Inspectorate’s report on Lynemore Care Home highlights key strengths in leadership, the dedication of our team, and the quality of our care and support planning.

“It also recognises Lynemore as a welcoming and homely environment, with well-maintained facilities, a consistent and supportive staff team, and a varied programme of meaningful activities.

"The report has outlined areas where we could further enhance standards, and our team has already taken action to ensure these improvements are made.

"The well-being of our residents remains our top priority, and we will continue to build on the positive aspects of this report while striving for even higher standards of care and support.

“We would like to thank our staff for their hard work and ongoing commitment."

The issues with well-being were related to people's personal plans and identifying how residents’ health and well-being needs are being met.

Another area of improvement was over people's medication which should be planned and coordinated in a safe way.

The inspectors said: “In order to do this, staff should review medication storage and administration to identify where improvements can be made, to support people's experiences being consistently safe and effective.”

But there was also plenty of praise for the facility with inspectors stating: “Staff treated people with kindness, compassion, and respect.”

They also found residents ‘felt reassured with their support because there was a consistent staff team in Lynemore’.

“This meant that both the person and their staff, knew each other well, enabling them to build positive relationships,” said the inspectors.

Activities staff worked hard to tailor a range of appropriate activities for people who lived in Lynemore.

The report stated: “People told us there was always something going on, and they were offered choices to get involved in a variety of activities.”

Cleanliness was singled out with the inspectors saying: “Housekeeping staff were meticulous in how they approached the cleaning of communal areas and people's bedrooms, and these were all found to be clean, free from odours and comfortable for people.”

The inspectors spoke with several people using the service and a number of their family and friends as well as several staff and management;

They also observed practice and daily life and reviewed documents.

Lynemore has four units, each with 10 bedrooms. The bedrooms are spacious and have en-suite facilities.
