Aviemore was hit by problems with its electricity supply yesterday.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) was alerted to a power cut in the village at 2.34pm.

Engineers quickly traced the issue to the faulty pole box which had caused the power cut to 715 local customers.

Some businesses still trading during the lockdown in the village centre were just briefly affected by the outage but others were without power for a longer period.

Homes in Dalfaber – the village's main area of population – were reconnected after being left without power for more than 90 minutes.

A SSEN spokeswoman said: "All supplies were restored by 6.32pm and SSEN would like to apologise to its customers for any inconvenience caused while they worked to quickly and safely restore supplies."

Meanwhile SSEN has said it is aware that customers may have concerns relating to power cuts at this time.

The spokesperson said: "To assist with this SSEN has extended its Priority Services Register to those who are categorised at high risk and extremely high risk of severe illness from coronavirus so they are now eligible to sign up for additional support through the free, tailored service.

"This includes those following government guidelines who have received a letter from the NHS to socially shield for a 12-week period."
