A Glenmore base for regular and ex-regular Armed Forces staff closed this week, but has explained that the move is temporary.

The shut-down became effective on Monday, says Rothiemurchus Lodge’s website.

“It is with deep regret that a decision has been made to close the Lodge with immediate effect to enable a stocktake of our current business practices.”

But the post continues: “Rest assured, our closure is temporary and a re-opening date will be publicised ASAP.”

The base has for many years offered year-round, affordable, self-catering accommodation in the heart of the Cairngorms.

The lodge provides accommodation for regular and ex-regular members of the Armed Forces in addition to Reserves, MoD Civilians and Cadet Forces.

The families of these groups are made welcome too. The Lodge is also available for use by the Scout Association, Girl Guide Association and other recognised youth organisations including schools, outside the MoD family.

There are some 102 beds available over three separate accommodation buildings, with prices from as little as £15.00 per person per night, and family rooms are available at special prices.

Rothiemurchus Lodge is a non-profit charity and has an accountable committee to run affairs which is drawn from members of the three armed services.

Chairman of the committee, Captain Chris Smith, told the Strathy: “The Lodge is undertaking a review of the governance arrangements, which are required as part of our aspiration for transition to an OSCR registered charity.

“This process has highlighted a few issues which need immediate attention, and could be more readily addressed with the Lodge empty of guests.

“There is every intention to re-open as soon as we can, and we will share this news once we know.

“We are also seeking to widen the access to the Lodge and look to welcome Scouts, Guides and similar organisations, going forwards.”.
