Speyside Woollens wraps up – for the 'time-being'
Aviemore's popular 'Speyside Countrywear' has wrapped up for the winter thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Edinburgh Woollen Mill has posted – literally, on the door of the store in the Grampian Road mall – its reasons for the cessation of counter service in the village.
The management is saying in "a note to our lovely customers":
"We're really sorry to say that we will be closing down all of our stores across the EWM group for a little while, so that we can play our part in ensuring our customers, staff and communities remain as safe as possible."
The shop has been emptied of stock and the management adds: "We're going to really miss you in-store but would love for you to stay in touch."
The company is stressing that its social channels remain open for the customers to connect with them.
"And others in the community," the notice adds.
"Together we will try and spread some positivity and light during these unprecedented times."
The Edinburgh Woollen Mill Group has been speaking to potential suitors and work on a rescue plan.
The company – which operates EWM alongside Jaeger and Peacocks and several other fascias – said in October that it would go bust without filing for an intention to appoint administrators with the High Court, with 24,000 jobs in the balance.
Bosses have since started closing 50 stores with 600 job losses, while they work through securing backing for the rest of the business.
All those locals and visitors who have stayed loyal to the shop, a long-running fixture of Aviemore's renowned Mall, are thanked by the firm for their support.
"We hope that you and your loved ones stay safe and well."
The company's on-line store remains trading at www.ewm.co.uk
