Police Scotland to lay on three scam prevention sessions in Badenoch and Strathspey
Police Scotland will be hosting three face to face scam and fraud prevention sessions in Badenoch and Strathspey next week.
The force's South Highland officers will be providing crime prevention advice in Aviemore, Kingussie and Grantown.
Police Scotland’s Aviemore-based Temporary Inspector Craig Johnstone said: “Fraud, in any form, is a despicable and cowardly crime. Often anonymous criminals target the most vulnerable people in our communities.
“We want to take the opportunity to warn the public to take a few steps to protect themselves and remain vigilant.
"The public should be aware that a telephone call, email or text may not be from the person or organisation it appears to come from.
"Never click on a link from an unsolicited email or text, and remember that banks, police or other legitimate organisations will never ask for personal banking information or ask to move funds to a different account.
"Police Scotland is absolutely committed to working with a wide range of partners to pursue anyone who sets out to cause harm and misery in our communities and make Scotland a hostile environment for them to operate.
"I would encourage anyone who would like advice regarding frauds to attend any of these sessions, whether that be because they have vulnerable family members or they themselves would like advice regarding this.
"Finally, anyone who suspects that they or a family member could be the victim of a fraud should please call Police Scotland on 101."
The local crime prevention sessions which are open to everyone are as follows:
• Aviemore Police Station: 10.30am – noon on Monday 14 November;
• Talla Nan Ros, King Street, Kingussie: 1pm – 2.30pm on Monday 14 November;
• The Library, Grantown Court House: 10.30am – noon on Thursday 17 November.
