Police make nationwide appeal to trace dead man's family and friends
Police officers investigating the discovery of a man’s body within premises at Aberdeen beach front have released an artist’s impression of the man in a bid to identify him.
The man, who is believed to be around 30 years-old, was discovered shortly after 10pm on Sunday September 8 within The Boardwalk, on Aberdeen’s Beach Esplanade.
A drawing, created by an expert, shows an image similar to the man who had reddish/brown hair, green/hazel eyes and freckled completion. It’s understood he was a smoker.
Officers returned to the area one week on from the initial discovery on Sunday evening in a bid to identify any possible new witnesses who may have seen the man during the previous week.
Around 60 people were spoken to in an attempt to identify any new sightings or leads which might help identify the man.
The re-visit comes just days after police released an image of the man’s clothing – ‘Officers Club’ dark blue denim jeans, a black Adidas top, an orange Adidas t-shirt and size 9 F&F grey plimsolls - in a bid that it might trigger calls about the man’s movements and his identity.
But despite a small number of witnesses coming forward, his identity remains a mystery.
Constable John Urquhart, from the enquiry team, said it was "unusual" that no-one had so far come forward to report him missing but made a heart-felt plea for friends or family to come forward.
He said: "It’s very sad that this tragic case happened and we still don’t know the identity of the person who has died.
"He’s someone’s son, brother, uncle, friend and I think we would all empathise with how difficult this must be for his family in particular, who must be missing him at the moment.
"He must have neighbours, colleagues and associates who haven’t seen him or heard from him in over a week now, and may be wondering where he is.
"Someone, somewhere will be missing him and we would ask people to come forward and help us."
Police continue to appeal for information concerning any sightings of the man who is described as white, 5’9’’, weighing nine-and-a-half stone and of slim build.
Police Scotland have been in contact with forces across the country and further to see if they had any missing people that might fit the man’s description.

Constable Urquhart said they had also been in touch with the National Missing Persons Bureau and had not ruled out the fact he might be someone who had come from further afield.
He said: "In terms of his background and where he originates from, we retain an open mind. We are exploring all possibilities that he may be from another country or maybe someone who is from the local area although there is nothing to indicate either way at the moment."
A search of CCTV systems in the area has been carried out to help establish his movements but so far this has proved inconclusive.
Constable Urquhart said: "We now know he was in the area of the beach front for anything up to two hours before he entered the Boardwalk and I believe people who were in the area of the beach front a week past Sunday will have noticed him."
PC Urquhart appealed to anyone with information, or CCTV, about the man or anyone matching his description to come forward with information.
Officers confirm there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and are not looking for anyone in connection with the matter.
