Police probe death in Newtonmore

Police officers have been querying neighbours around the northern end of Newtonmore for two days.

The Strathy has received calls from puzzled villagers wondering what was going on since yesterday afternoon (Tuesday).

Police were in the village all afternoon and into the evening and returned this morning to continue their vigil.

At 1.35 today a spokesman was able to tell the Strathy: "Around 11am on Tuesday, September 1, officers were called to an address in the Kingussie Road area of Newtonmore, following a report of a man being taken unwell.

"We can confirm that the man has since died and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
