Police are investigating the trashing of a brand new play park in Aviemore which is not even a week old.

The £116k Burnside Park Project’s opening ceremony was only held on Friday, amid great excitement with all those who had worked so hard to put it altogether before the arrival of the winter weather.

But this morning there was shocking news for those who had invested so much time and effort into the creation of the safe play area

Committee member Domi Maxine Macklin posted: “I am heartbroken writing this post this morning. Overnight someone has pulled the turf up and thrown it all over the equipment.

“It’s not the type of phone call you want to get on a Sunday morning and when I got down there I couldn’t believe the state of it.

“The park has barely been open six days and this happens. You need to be a very sick individual to wreck a kids park and leave drug packets on the ground for children to find.

“I have reported this to the police and they will be attending today but unfortunately I am unable to call the Highland Council until tomorrow.”

Police have indeed been in touch today and the Strathy has asked for an update, offering to carry any appeal for information about the attack.

“If any of the residents have CCTV from last night or heard anything please let me know,” said Domi.

She told the Strathy tonight: “We went down and cleared up a bit at lunchtime. I’ve had the police here. I’ll be giving the police a statement tomorrow.”

The project has received huge support from the community from day one, the committee full of gratitude to those who had helped make it all a reality.

The long list includes Tesco, Harry Gow’s, Co-op, Home Bargains, The Balavoulin and The Cairngorm Hotel.

Aviemore Community Enterprise also lent its weight to the cause.

After April’s successful event at the resort a committee spokesperson celebrated: “It’s truly is amazing what can be achieved in a year.”
