Police divers conducting a search of Badenoch loch
Police Scotland divers have been searching a loch by Dalwhinnie in connection with an on-going investigation.
The Strathy was contacted by a bike rider about the search of Loch an t-seilich at lunchtime.
He had been out cycling on the track link from Glentromie Estate to Gaick Lodge when he spotted the incident.
A Police Scotland spokesperson told the Strathy: “Police Scotland’s Dive and Marine Unit are assisting with searches of an area of land near Kingussie in relation to an ongoing enquiry into a raptor satellite tag which was recovered in the area.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
The land is managed by Wildland Ltd, the conservation arm of Anne and Anders Povlsen and the Strathy asked the company's director of conservation, Thomas MacDonell, about the find.
"The tag, a golden eagle's, was a historic one," he said. "It was found by the loch when the water was very low and reported to the police. When it was brought our attention at our Glenfeshie office we found that the records confirmed it had initially been attached to the bird before Wildland's time, back in 2010 and had stopped transmitting in 2012.
"But the police were keen to take a look around the area in an effort to find any other possible evidence of wildlife crime, historic or otherwise.
"Like us, they take such finds very seriously and we were happy to assist.
"Our current raptor tracking site via Wildland is incredibly popular and anyone can follow the progress of our own golden eagles in this area and beyond."
