Police appeal for information after fatal road accident on the Dava road
Road policing officers are appealing for information after an elderly man was killed in a crash on the A939 north of Grantown.
The crash, involving a black Peugeot 2008 and a DAF articulated lorry, happened around 11am today on a section of the A939 Grantown-Nairn road on the Dava stretch, four and a half miles north of the Strathspey capital.
An 86-year-old man, the driver of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene and an 81-year-old woman was taken by the Scottish Ambulance Service to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness where her condition is described as serious.
Sergeant David Miller, of the North Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who sadly died in this crash and our enquiries are ongoing to find out what happened.
“I would ask anyone who may have been driving along that stretch of road before the accident happened to get in touch and to check if they have any dash-cam footage that could help with our investigation."
Area Commander Derek Wilson, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Local Senior Office for Highland region, said: “We were alerted at 10.59am on Wednesday, October 7, to reports of a collision involving a lorry and a car on the A939 north of Grantown.
“Operations Control mobilised three appliances and one heavy rescue appliance to the scene.
“Firefighters extricated one casualty from the car, who was taken to hospital by the Scottish Ambulance Service.
“Another casualty was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“Our thoughts are very much with family, friends and the wider community at this difficult time.”
Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the accident should call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0987 of Wednesday, 7 October, 2020.
