Plans for new uplift on famous White Lady ski run at Cairngorm
Plans have come forward this week at Cairngorm Mountain for the return of uplift on the resort’s most famous run.
Sadly, the proposal is just for a rope tow on a short section at the bottom of the White Lady run.
The operators have lodged plans with Highland Council’s planners for the installation of the surface-tow and related infrastructure for the slope.
Alan Brattey, Save the Ciste spokesman, said: “The planning application does not have anything to say about the purpose of such a short rope tow here on what is relatively steep ground.
“It simply seems like yet another ad hoc planning application for something that was not included in the Cairngorm masterplan.
“We assume that the Scottish Ski Club is financing the cost.
"But this is a considerable scaling back of their proposal to construct a new White Lady tow when Natural Retreats were the leaseholders.”
CMSL said they did not wish to comment at this stage on the application.
The Iconic White Lady T-bar last carried skiers and boarders up CairnGorm in April 2006.
In February 2007 the lift – which had not operated that season due to poor snow on the lower White Lady – suffered a catastrophic failure when being run for maintenance.
No-one was injured.
Winter Highland later reported: "Despite fund raising attempts to contribute to the repair cost raising half the initial estimated repair costs, sadly further investigation into the lift found significant structural issues which combined with the level of damage sustained was deemed to have rendered the White Lady T-bar beyond economic repair..."
The lift infrastructure was later removed.
