Planning approval recommended for Cairngorm Mountain's top station

Plans to redevelop the Ptarmigan top station at Cairngorm Mountain are being recommended for approval by the Cairngorms National Park planning committee next week.

The proposal to extend the station was submitted to the CNPA by the previous operator Cairngorm Mountain Ltd last year before they went into administration.

A spokesman for new owners Highlands and Islands Enterprise said: "After acquiring the business and its assets from the administrators, HIE decided to allow the planning process to run its course.

"The application is now due to be considered by CNPA at its meeting on May 24.

"If planning permission is granted, it will remain valid for three years.

"However, it’s important to note that there is currently no commitment to proceed with the works which will be considered as part of the long-term strategy."

CNPA planners are recommending members should approve the expansion subject to conditions when they meet at the Lecht ski centre on Friday.

In a separate move Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Ltd has announced the appointment of Ruari MacDonald as senior ranger at Cairngorm Mountain.
